Civic Action, Community Work

Medical doctors not only study the body; they seek to preserve human health and well-being.
Earth scientists are doing this, too, for planetary well-being.

King County Labor Council Climate Caucus

In 2016 I joined the King County Labor Council's climate caucus to foster an open-ended, non-judgmental space where workers could discuss how climate change and the clean energy transition relates to our lives.  To support this caucus, I formed a speakers bureau of members from my graduate student union whose work relates to climate,  public health, social justice, and clean energy. We give talks, facilitate workshops, write newsletters, and host events with other unions in the labor community.

Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy

I serve on the steering committee of the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy,  representing our graduate student labor union, UAW 4121. The Alliance is a broad coalition of groups working to enact Citizens Initiative 1631, a equitable and transformative climate policy here in Washington State.

Read my OpEd about 1631 written for my hometown newspaper, the Tacoma Weekly.
